What is the WISSER Innovation Prize?

It is a design challenge for livelihood generation for the rural artisans in the North East Region of India. The design challenge is an effort by Bosco Institute, Life Plus, Baghchung, Jorhat in collaboration with Dhriiti-The Courage Within, to bring the best brains in the NorthEast Region and beyond, to provide product design solutions with pre-determined natural resources available in the region.

Registration will end at 11:59 PM, 15th July 2022.

How will it work?
WISSER Innovation Prize will work in the form of product/design hackathon wherein solutions which can support local artisans are to be submitted. Call for entries: The call for entries for product design/ innovation from two categories of natural resources are opened
  • Category 1: Bamboo and Cane
  • Category 2: Natural Fibres- Water Hyacinth, Kauna Grass, Shital Pati
Solution eligibility: The product design/innovation should have the potential to create livelihood opportunity for rural artisans and can be scaled into development projects for micro or nano entrepreneurs from the North East Region Participants categories: The design/innovation challenge calls for participants under 2 categories. 
  • Practitioners: This category is applicable for  professionals and occupational designers or innovators who are applying for the challenge
  • Students : This category is for young amateur designers who are applying for the challenge
Prizes for each categories: 
  • 2 winners will be selected from each category. The selection will be done by eminent juries to decide the result.
  • All 4 winners will be awarded fellowships for prototype building of the selected innovations along with a prize money each.
  • Prize money under Practitioners’ category: Winners in this category will be awarded a prize money of INR 1,50,000 each.
  • Prize money under Students’ category: Winner in this category will be awarded a prize money of INR 75,000 each.
Criteria for judging Both judging phases for selection of Top 10 and then Top 4, will be scored based on the following criteria:
  • Innovation/Product Design Viability (30%): Is innovation/product design relevant in the market? Does it have unique aspects/features from existing products in the market?
  • Business Viability(30%): Insightful valuation that this prototype or MVP (Minimum Viable Product) is viable for local business and scaling. Is it easy to test for the customer in terms of operation and user manual?
  • Social Index (30%): Did the team provide a solution that can be scaled and adopted at scale?
  • Learning stretch (10%): Did the team stretch themselves to learn something new? What kind of projects have they worked on before or domain expertise contribution?

  • Format-  Applicants can register as individuals or as a team of upto 3 members
  • In case of applying as individuals, the person must be a resident from North East Region of India
  • In case of applying as a team, the team must consist of upto 3 members with at least 1 member being a resident from North East Region of India
  • Choose as many roles as applicants can think one can play
    • Builder (Designers and innovators)- build functional prototypes
    • Hustler ( Marketing and business)- presenter and promoter of the prototypes
    • Hunter/Helper ( Social work, Rural specialist, regional specialist)- capturing realities of North East region and of Rural India for a better problem solving
  • Final submission team need to have at least 1 designer/innovator and at least 1 member being a resident of North East Region in India
  • In case of individual applicants, the applicant has to be a designer/an innovator from the North East Region in India

  • The Design Challenge is open to all professionals, practitioners, students and innovators alike. 
  • Participants below 18 years old must submit a signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form.
  • Submit all forms upon registration to the Wisser Innovation Prize Registration Portal.
  • Participants must complete registration process.
  • To form a team, register as participants and create/add team on the Wisser Innovation Prize Registration Portal.
  • Join the official Facebook / Whatsapp Group.
  • This is on the Design Innovation Challenge. 
    • Product designs/innovations that can be produced in scale by rural producers /potential to create livelihoods for rural artisans in North East India
    • Video presentations of the product/innovation needs to be uploaded within 10 days of submitting the registration form
    • The event permits designs created beforehand by the designer/design team.
    • Call for entries for product/design innovation from two categories common natural resources 
      • Category 1: Bamboo and Cane
      • Category 2: Natural Fibre (Water Hyacinth,Kauna Grass, Sital Pati)
  • Make sure to read through our Code of Conduct. Those in violation of the rules may be disqualified at the discretion of the Innovation challenge organisers.

  • All projects must be submitted through the Wisser Innovation Prize Registration Portal, and must be complete to be considered. Incomplete submissions will not be counted. 
  • Submissions should contain the following:
    • All team members (min of 1 max 3)
    • Entry of all details marked compulsory in the form
    • Full design/product innovation details
    • Minimum 2-3 minute video demo of solution in the form of a presentation by the team

    • All team members must be registered on the Wisser Innovation Prize Registration Portal. Submission of projects as well as judging will be conducted through the Wisser Innovation Prize Registration Portal.
    • JOIN the Wisser Innovation Prize Participant's Facebook and WhatsApp Group. Important announcements and reminders will be done here.
    • Each team is required to have at least 1 member and a maximum of 3 with at least 1 member being a resident of the North East Region in India.
  • Wisser Innovation Prize will kick off through an opening program happening on June 23, 2022 
    • Designs/Innovations can be submitted starting 12:00 NN of June 23, 2022 on the Wisser Innovation Prize.
    • Application freeze is on July 15, 12:00 NN. Submissions sent on July 15, 12:01 PM onwards will not be counted.
  • Top 10 will be announced on July 31, 2022 and will pitch to the Jury on August 21, 2022
  • Winners will be announced on Aug 31, 2022
  • All activities will be held ONLINE.

  • any parties associated with the innovation challenge

  • any other online media 

Harassment includes verbal abuse, intimidation, stalking, chasing, photographing or audio/video recording without consent, ongoing interruption of conversations, and unrequested sexual attention. 

Participants who violate these rules will be asked to stop the harassing behavior immediately and can be excluded from the innovation challenge at the discretion of the organisers

Intellectual Property Rights 

All submissions remain the intellectual property of the individuals or organizations that developed them. 

Protection of Intellectual Property 

By submitting an Entry or accepting any prize, you represent and warrant the following: you will not submit content that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner to post the content; and the content submitted by you does not contain any viruses, Trojan horses, worms or other disabling devices or harmful content.


Participant represents and warrants that he or she is the sole author and copyright owner of the Submission, and that the Submission is an original work of the Participant, or if the Submission is a work based on an existing application, that the Participant has acquired sufficient rights to use and to authorize others; and that the Submission does not infringe upon any copyright or upon any other third party rights of which the Participant is aware, and that the Submission is free of malware.
