The Hub Jorhat recently reached an exciting milestone with the successful completion of the NE-Vent 3 program, a special initiative exclusively for women entrepreneurs from the Northeast region of India. The program drew applications from six states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland—highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in these regions.
Out of the 62 applications received, 25 women were carefully selected through a rigorous interview and boot camp process. These women represent a diverse range of ideas and businesses, all united by their passion and determination to make a difference. We are proud to share that 22 of these women successfully completed the incubation training program, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to grow their startups.
The final immersion of NE-Vent 3 took place from June 1 to June 5, 2024, at Bosco Institute. During this immersion, 21 incubatees participated in intensive training, including pitching preparation. For those who were unable to attend in person, we offered online sessions, ensuring that everyone could benefit from the experience. Our advisor, Mr. Pankaj Baruah, worked closely with each incubatee, providing one-on-one guidance and helping them refine their business presentations. The session also included mock pitches, allowing the entrepreneurs to practice and improve before the final event.
An exposure visit to the North East Agriculture Technology Entrepreneurs Hub (NEATeHub) at Assam Agricultural University was organized on June 3. This visit was an eye-opener for the incubatees, offering insights into government-sponsored incubation hubs, funding opportunities, and startup dynamics. Dr. K. Karthikeyan, Chief Executive Officer of NEATeHub, led an enlightening session that left our entrepreneurs inspired and better equipped to navigate the startup ecosystem.
The highlight of the program was the Pitching Event, held on June 4 and 5, where all 21 participants had the chance to present their ideas to a panel of esteemed judges. The panel included industry experts and investors like Dr. K. Karthikeyan, Rachna Chandrashekhar from Upaya Social Ventures, Ujjwala Darvemula from Palas Tree Catalyst, and Gaurav Barrick, a Financial Analyst from Nedfi Venture Capital Limited. This event provided a valuable platform for our entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas, receive constructive feedback, and connect with potential investors.
On June 17, 2024, the results of the pitching event were announced via Zoom. The virtual gathering was filled with excitement and anticipation as Fr. Jerry Thomas, Director of Bosco Institute, announced the top five winners. These outstanding women—Barsha Sharma, Munmi Bora, Prantika Sarma, Shidalin Marbiang, and Jerina Ara Ahmeda—each received a grant of INR 1,50,000 to invest in their enterprises. Additionally, the next five entrepreneurs received INR 1,20,000 each, the following five received INR 50,000 each, and the final six received INR 25,000 each.
We are incredibly proud of all the NE-Vent 3 participants for their hard work, dedication, and innovation. This program not only supports the growth of women-led businesses but also strengthens the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Northeast India. We look forward to seeing how these talented women will continue to develop their ventures and inspire others in their communities.
Congratulations to all the participants and winners of NE-Vent 3! Your success is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of providing opportunities for women entrepreneurs. The Hub Jorhat remains committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of leaders and change-makers in the region.
